Niamh's injury was sudden and quite severe, causing her considerable pain difficulty moving. Our team acted quickly, assessing her injury with the utmost care. After through examination by Dr Kyle Eadie, it was determined that needed immediate attention followed by radiographs.

We ensured Niamh was comfortable and stabilised her condition before proceeding with necessary treatments. Radiographs revealed that she had fractured her radius and ulna.

Radius and ulna fractures in dogs are commonly treated with surgery to realign the bones, reduce pain, and restore normallimb function.

Niamh required a fracture repair of her leg, and this procedure was carried out by experienced orthodpeadic surgeon, Dr James Creasey. The surgery involved securing a bone plate and screws to the forelimb to ensure proper alignment and stability. This method is often preferred as it usually results in quicker healing and better long-term function of the limb.
Niamh's recovery
Niamh’s post-operative radiographs demonstrated accurate alignment and reduction, indicating a successful procedure. Her recovery involved strict crate rest to minimise movement and promote healing, along with short lead walks to gradually reintroduce controlled activity.

Such careful post-operative management is essential for ensuring the best possible outcome, helping to prevent complications and supporting a smooth return to normal mobility. Following veterinary advice during recovery is crucial to give pets like Niamh the best chance of a full recovery.
