Apollo's TPLO
Meet Apollo, the 2-year-old Dogue de Bordeaux, who has been experiencing some discomfort in his left hind leg after exercising.

After a thorough clinical assessment by our vet Dr Laurie Barrow, it was determined that Apollo needed a Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy (TPLO) to repair his cranial cruciate ligament (CrCL) and improve his mobility.

The TPLO is an orthopaedic surgery performed on dogs to stabilize the stifle joint after a rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament. During the procedure, the tibial plateau - the portion of the tibia adjoining the stifle - is cut and rotated so that its slope changes to approximately 5 degrees from the horizontal plane. This modification prevents the femur from sliding down the slope of the tibial plateau when the dog puts weight on its knee.

The procedure was performed by Dr Simon Culmstock and Dr Laurie Barrow and included an osteotomy, implant placement, and securing everything in position, followed by post-operative radiographs.
Apollo's recovery
Apollo’s recovery involved lots of rest and controlled exercise over the following six weeks to ensure a smooth and successful recovery. He was a delight to care for, charming the team with his Dogue de Bordeaux personality and slobbery kisses. Apollo also enjoyed plenty of cuddles while recovering in his kennel, with our dedicated nursing team keeping him company.
